This Too Shall Pass pt. 2

She looked at her fingertips and the cracks in her palms as she sat on her bed patiently waiting and anticipating on something new. She had a longing that the rain outside her window could not satisfy with its ability to pour. She looked at the dust on her floor and raged in envy for its talent in moving from one area to the next by the simple winds that rushed from the vents. She only knew what her butterfly necklace could do for her and even that was limited.

She heard knocking on the door and did not bother to look up from the crevices of her hands.

May I come in sweetie?

Sure, she said.

Now I know it has been about three months and…

Just… don’t speak on it, she said.

But honey, you’ve got to face the fact that he....

I said do not speak on it, she said.

She shifted her position in the bed and covered her ears with the pillow while she rocked back and forth. Her eyes widened and her rock began to get excessive as the bed began to creak moving back and forth. Back and forth.

Remember when he would take you out. How nice you thought he was to you. It’s funny how you thought he only wanted…

Why can’t you listen to me, she said.

Look down at your chest. Look at the sparkling butterfly that lays so beautifully on a chest that he…

She began to scream and the wind from the vents suddenly lifted the white sheet from her window.

Honey, your room smells like a dead flower and your face has become pale from lack of sun. You reject my meals I place outside your door and your voicemails are full. Something you are not. So how about you just…

She rejected her hands as she tried to force her out of the bed. Remembering the hands that forced her into that same bed.

Do not pity me, she said.

You should have been more careful and thought about how sparkly that dress can be and how your curls can make hands curl and interlock with yours. You should have listened to my words and…

That is why, she said.

That is why what?

That is why I thought he loved me, she said.

The winds brushed up against her face and the few baby hairs flew backwards.

Yeah, you thought he loved you when he could do everything in his power to get inside how…

Leave, she said.

Like I said sweetie, you’ve got to face the fact that he…

She finally stood up from the bed with the little strength she had left in her. She looked deep into the eyes and moved inch by inch.

I don’t need you, she said.

Room grew silent.

I know what he did, she said.

Silence began to speak. Vehemence high.

I know what I did, she said.

She stood by her bedside walking towards the window, broke the necklace off from around her neck and held it in her hands. She could hear nothing but footsteps leaving her room and the door slowly shut.

This is what you wanted, she said.

She let it fall from her hand as she took one step closer.
